UKB All right, so if you can just introduce yourself and obviously let people know who you are that don’t know your material so far?

LEKAA I go by the name  Lekaa Beats, I’m a producer from North West London.  I’ve been producing for about three years now, I started off making hip hop and R&B beats but recently have swayed more towards making Afro beats but I’m an all rounder in terms of my sound, as long as the artist and I have a good vibe in the studio it just works.

UKB Great!and yourself as a producer, how long have you been in the industry for and who would you say you look up to as a producer?

LEKAA I’ve always had a passion for making music, I started to take it seriously after I studied it at college and university. People started to gain an interest in my beats when I was just making them for fun, from there i ended up working with some big names, I guess it just happened organically. I like a lot of producers that are up and coming from the UK like ATG Musick, GA producer, Eman on the beat, Mikes Pro, Dj Juls and Maleek Berry they’re all great producers, worldwide it has to be Boi-1da for me, he influences my style and he has created some of the biggest hits in 2016 like Drake – Controlla and Rihanna ft Drake – Work. I admire his creativity, he is also my mentor and he’s taught me a lot.

UKB Serious, how did that come about?

LEKAA Back in 2013 when I was first starting out, I tweeted him as I had just made a beat that day, I was really proud of it, it was pretty decent lol, not knowing I would get a response and he just followed  me, I followed him back and from there we had one or two conversations and the relationship built. he then started mentoring me.

UKB What is your musical sound, what is your style?

LEKAA I started off doing rap, hip hop but I’ve gone into African music now as well. I’m from Nigeria so I’ve grown up listening to traditional music. I’ve always wanted to be more in touch with my roots and found I started learning more through my music. It’s a mixture between rap, African and R & B, even now I’ve started to implement some Dancehall in to my production. I love experimenting with my sound.

UKB You say the last project you put out was on your Soundcloud, what was the track?

LEKAA  I have a few new projects in the pipelines I’m itching to release new music. I have a new track out with Tanika ft  UK rapper Big Tobz that’s the latest track.

UKB wicked, what kind of sound is that track, what is it about?

LEKAA Its quite a different track for me as it’s a female vocalist. I would say it’s a fusion between R&B with a hint of dancehall.

UKB in terms of people within the game, who have you worked with and who haven’t you worked with that you would like to, that you feel you connect with musically?

LEKAA I’ve worked with Mr Eazi, Eugy, Tanika, 67, L.A.X, Moelogo, Krept & Konan, Burna Boy, Baseman, Big Tobz the list goes on, as you can see it’s an eclectic mix of talented artists. Who I would like to work with? From the UK i would say Skepta, Stormzy and Nines are high up on my list, I am up for working with anyone to be fair, internationally Young Thug, Drake and Definitely Tory Lanes. They are the coldest artists for me right now.

UKB You think so… Young Thug?

LEKAA Yeh Young Thug is very strange, he’s eccentric, he’s different but his music is just natural.

UKB How do you get to work with all the big names you have accomplished?

LEKAA There’s no one way, sometimes ill just be out and I’ll reach out to them, other times it’s through previous work and other artists. Overall I think it’s all about networking and letting the music speak for itself.

UKB Cool, so obviously you’ve come down for your shoot, it looks like Adidas has taken a strong liking to you and your brand, you’ve got a lot of Adidas on lol, give us a bit of insight about that, what’s that all about?

LEKAA Yeah I’ve always liked to wear sports clothing I like to keep it simple with my style.  Adidas are just one of the brands I’ve been wearing since I was young, I like a lot of what they do. It just works for me. Recently I was gifted some Adidas personalised items I just think the whole concept is pretty unique.

UKB So hopefully in the future we can see a lot more collaborations between yourself and Adidas?

LEKAA God willing man.

UKB Next question is off topic but current affairs lol, Brexit, what is your view, are you happy we’ve left the EU, are you not happy or do you not have a view?

LEKAA I’m not going to lie I don’t follow politics to know the ins and outs so I can’t really say as both remain and leave parties didn’t have enough information on the pros and cons of the situation.

UKB Cool and how would you say the music scene has done so far,  would you say the scene has progressed to a global level?

LEKAA I think that the scene has done very well from Grime being commercially recognised to Afro beats being noticed in the charts  I think there’s a lot of artists right now that are flying the flag for the UK.
